i'll give you 3 good reasons why my long-term love affair with coffee has just received a kick in the pants:

1. with the new season and cooler weather, my usual cup in the morning doesn't do the job - i need an afternoon delight.

2. just the thought of 11 days in italy (in less than 10 days!) makes me want a machiatto in the worst way.

3. hampton chutney co. cardamom coffee. i don't know how i lived so long without it.

this place exists and i finally went yesterday. an 18 mile bike ride to a secret little lookout was exactly what i needed this weekend.

i'm such a sucker for the holidays and all the tinsel and faux snow and spruce scent that comes with them. this miiight be the first year my mom hasn't sent me an advent calendar to keep track of the merriment and jumpstart each december day with a little peek into a paper window of partridges in pear trees and sleigh rides through snowy wonderlands. rather than pout i have decided to create my own little virtual advent calendar- each day of this month i will (try my hardest to) share a festive image that is bound to conjure up a little sugarplum spirit in each of you.

this is pretty crazy. while searching for maps of another kind i stumbled upon 11-year old fritz freudenheim's amazing, colorful illustration of his families' journey from nazi germany to montevideo, uruguay in 1938. i'm really in love.
